The Kingdom of Westphalia. The light infantry.

The Light infantry of Westphalia, as well as the whole army of the kingdom, was well staffed and trained. The whole country should have become a kind of standard in sample of which the German states should have developed and improved.

From the very beginning of the formation of the light infantry the color of soldier’s uniform was blue as a cornflower then they changed it to the more conventional inherent color of the light infantry. The uniform became green with blue trim, green trousers and black gaiters or short boots.

The Light infantry made its way from one battalion of the 1st Battalion’s composition and the 1st spare company with the total numbers of people equal to 600 to four battalions that differ in the number of personnel in 1812.

Among the battalions approached the War of 1812, there were three of them: the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd battalions. The number of people in each of them increased to 970. The fourth had in its composition 836 people.

The fourth light battalion took part in the Battle of Leipzig, but didn’t take part in the war of 1812.

The battalion of jagers-carabineers also was in the light infantry.

After Napoleon's defeat in the autumn of 1813, the remnants of the army returned home. During the return of Napoleon, the so-called "100 days", the army of Westphalia had fought against their former allies - the French.
