Westphalian cavalry consisted of the Guard and army units. Army cavalry included two Cuirassier Regiments (they were created in 1808 and 1810).
Jerome Bonaparte, contrary to the wishes of his brother, the Emperor, formed two cuirassier regiments instead of the regiments of light cavalry. However, the attack in Borodino, which was attended by both cuirassier regiments, was successful only because of the presence of elite heavy cavalry regiments. Also a part of the Westphalian cavalry there were 2 Hussars, and 1 lightmounted Regiment (in October 1812 only there was formed the 2nd lightmounted Regiment but only on paper).
In the Guard there was registered a horse Guards squadron and 3 lightmounted Squadrons (since 1811 - the Lancers), as well as the French Hussars, who had wore the title of "Hussars Jerome Napoleon."
After the collapse of the kingdom of Westphalia this regiment joined the ranks of the French Army as the 13th Hussars. 03.25.1814 this regiment was completely destroyed at Fershampenuaz.
The cavalry Army of the Kingdom of Westphalia consisted of regiments of light and heavy cavalry. It consisted of:
- Two cuirassier regiment;
- Two Chevau-léger Regiment;
- Two regiments of the Hussars.
First Chevau-léger regiment was disbanded after 1809, but managed to take part in the war in Spain.
The rest of the cavalry regiments had been fighting for the Emperor for the entire period of the Russian campaign, but after the defeat of Napoleon, not all of them remained faithful to the oath. Both regiments of the Hussars went over to the Austrians, turning their weapons against their former comrades August 22.
