The troops were under the command of Eugene Bogarne Napoleon's stepson, Viceroy of the Kingdom of Italy. In 1812 the troops of the Kingdom had been amounted to the Fourth Army Corps.
The 3rd regiment has its origins in 1807. In July 1807 the Royal Regiment Brescia’s rangers was renamed as the 3rd Regiment of the Light Infantry.
This regiment participated in the battles in Tarvisio, Raab, Maloyaroslavetz, Viazma, Dukhovshchina, Red, Elsan, Chernuts Cave.
In the Russian campaign there was the personnel of the 1st, the 2nd, the 3rd and the 4th Battalions in the amount of 87 officers and 3039 established men.
Commander: Colonel d'Areze (d'Arese).
1st Battalion: Battalion Chief Beckley (Beckly).
2nd Battalion: Battalion Chief Olivier (Olivier).
3rd Battalion: Battalion Chief Lorini (Lorini).
4th Battalion: Battalion Chief Albani (Albani).
All four battalions were in the 2nd Brigade under the command of Brigadier General of the Italian Kingdom Frederick Baron Francois de Guillaume de Vodankura, of the 15th Infantry (Italian) Division which was commanded by Division General Domenico Pino.
The regiment had the regimental artillery - 2 three - foot guns.
The Italian corps that was under the command of Eugene Beauharnais crossed the Neman River on June 30, 1812 in the village of Prena.
Passing the entire company, participating in various battles, experiencing all the hardships of retreat the corps retained enough order and organization.
On December 12, 1812 the remains of the corps of the Italian Kingdom were able to cross the border of the Russian Empire near Kovno.
On December 31, 1812 only 452 people of the entire corps gathered in Marienwerder.
