French pedestrian artillery the 1st Regiment

After the innovations of Gribovalya, French artillery took the first place among the European armies in quality of their tools and their organization. By the end of 1801 there were eight regiments in pedestrian artillery. Each regiment was made up of 12 companies. The company was equipped with 6 guns and 2 howitzers 6,4 caliber. In 1803 two more companies were added to each regiment. Newly created 16 companies were sent to the Caribbean Islands and to Africa to fight a battle.
Since the beginning of 1803 they began to rearm the artillery park. The system of Gribovalya was replaced by a new Anno-XI as well as 4 and 6-pounder guns were replaced by 6 and 12 ones. Naturally, old guns continued to be used in different combinations.
In 1805 artillery company was made up of 100 people as well as the regiment consisted of 20 companies. By 1811 there were no significant changes in the structure of the Army. The company was equipped with 6 guns and 2 howitzers. The number of people in the company increased up to 114 people.
The companies of pedestrian artillery were distributed on separate enclosures and acted independently. For better artillery attacks on the battlefield the companies of different regiments could be united into batteries of 80-100 guns.
The 1st regiment of pedestrian artillery dates back to 1720.
During the Napoleonic Wars the regiment took part in the following battles: Marengo, Gogenlinden, Ulm, Austerlitz, Jena, Pultusk, Eylau, Ostrolenka, Friedland, Medina del Rio Seco, Essling, Vahram, Ciudad Rodrigo, Cadiz, Badajoz, Arapily.
In the Russian Campaign the artillerymen of the 1st Regiment were noted in the battles: Polotsk, Smolensk, Borodino, Red, Berezina, Wilno.
The personnel of the 1st Regiment met 1812 in different army corps of the Grand Army:
In the 1st Army Corps on June 25, 1812 as a reserve artillery there were the third and the 17th companies in the amount of 5-officers and 226 enlisted men.
In the second Army Corps on the first of June, 1812 as a main artillery park Corps there were the 1st and the 15th companies in the amount of 6 officers and 205 enlisted men.
In the 3rd Army Corps on the 1st June 1812 as a reserve artillery there were 16th,18-th and 21-th companies in the amount of 7-minute officers and 279 enlisted men.
In the 4th Army Corps on the 25th June 1812, the 15th Infantry Division - 14th company.
On the replenishment of losses during the campaign from the depot regiment the marching detachment of the 1st Regiment was sent to Russia, which came from Berlin 7th July 1812 there were 2 officers and 250 enlisted men.
The 1st Artillery regiment was disbanded in 1815, but from 1813 to 1815 the regiment took part in the battles: Lutzen, Bautzen, Vittoria, Dresden, Yuterbog, Leipzig, Hanau, la Rothiere, Paris.
