The Kingdom of Italy. The Cavalry.

In four months after the formation of the Kingdom of Italy, on July 3, 1805 the Hussars regiments were transferred to the dragoons.

The 1st Hussars regiment was transformed into the Dragoon Queen’s regiment - Dragoni della Regina.

The 2nd Hussars regiment was transformed into the dragoons of Napoleon - Dragoni Napoleone.

The regiment of mounted rangers was renamed as the Royal Italian rangers.

Each regiment consisted of 4 squadrons that divided into 2 companies with 116 people in each.

A year later, in 1806, in each regiment there were formed spare doubleregiment squadrons with 27 people in both companies.

The second regiment of horse rangers – the Reale Principe - appeared in 1808. In 1810 they got the number 2. The re-organized horse rangers’ regiment – the Reale Italiano- got the number 1. A little later, there was organized the third regiment which didn’t get a number.

By 1810 the number of soldiers in the companies was changed. It was increased to 132. But people of a spare company were reduced to 21.

In 1811 there was formed the 4th cavalry regiment of rangers, and in 1812 - all the spare companies joined the "General depot" cavalry rangers.

Except the dragoons’ regiments that were in the Guard Cavalry Brigade, two horse rangers’ Regiment (the 2nd and the 3rd) took part in the Russian campaign.

The Large and Small buttons of the " Reggimento Dragoni " of the Italian Army.

The buttons were produced by casting in metal molds. The inscription on the buttons shows a soldier belonging to the regiment of the Italian Army " Reggimento Dragoni ". The inscription is made as a monogram with the intertwined letters D R.

These buttons belong to the regiment, which was in the Guards brigade of cavalry, but at the same time was not a regiment of the Guards. Therefore, the buttons of this regiment can be attributed to the cavalry of the Italian Army. The regiment passed the whole way with its corps. The findings at the places of Vitebsk and Smolensk battles and some of the findings in the direction to Moscow confirm it.

The Buttons of the Regiment " Reggimento Dragoni " of the Italian army encountered in single copies, so their rarity can be evaluated as R 4 by the scale of rarity from 0 to 5.

Only a few copies were found in the area of Vitebsk and a few in the Smolensk region.

The buttons of smaller diameter catches more. Although the tin buttons and the other parts of the uniform that made from tin just crumble and become completely unavailable to historians and collectors.

Only thanks to several people who invest their knowledge, experience and skills in it, the tin buttons are given a new life. The officers’ buttons are found only in single copies and their rarity can be evaluated only theoretically.
